Queen Elizabeth II
As part of the Ascot commission there needed to be a portrait relief sculpture of the Queen herself. This will be positioned when the next monarch takes the throne. The photograph shows the working model of the finished piece. Her Majesty chose to have herself depicted as a young woman as is the case with the portrait of both Queen Anne and Queen Victoria. This shows the last stage of the work just before the final mould is taken ready to cast the piece. All the clay modeling is nowhere to be seen at this stage and is replaced by polished resin.
