Oriental Moon – A Portrait as a Story

The subject of ‘Oriental Moon’ is a lady whose striking, unique appearance captured Andrew’s artistic eye on a visit to a Chinese furniture shop. He instantly recognised that her distinctive features would create a truly fantastic portrait. After being flattered and taken aback by the unusual request to sit for Andrew, the lady and her husband visited the studio for a portrait photo and measurement session. Andrew wanted to use her face to bring alive an idea he had. He designed a stunning composition that acted as much more than just a portrait, thanks to the addition of different sized moons framing her face and shoulders and her long ponytail hair transforming into a Chinese dragon at the base of the sculpture.
