The Bride & Bridesmaid – A ‘Posthumous’ Double Portrait

‘The Bride and Bridesmaid’ is an emotionally charged posthumous double portrait.  Andrew was commissioned by a widowed husband to replicate an image taken at his wedding of his late bride and his sister, the bridesmaid. The sculpture was a surprise gift for his parents-in-law on their late daughter’s birthday. The challenge was working from a single photo taken eight years previously. As with all occasions, on completing the clay sculpture, Andrew invited the husband and his family to view the sculpture. The husband was accompanied by his parents-in-law, his sister and his three children. It proved to be a very tearful, heart-rending moment when the sculpture was revealed with the youngest of the children at once exclaiming, “oh, that’s our mummy!”
