The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment Memorial Sculpture

In early 2018 Andrew Sinclair MRBS was commissioned to create a commemorative sculpture for the Duke of Wellington’s Regimental Association. Their brief was to sculpt a significant and permanent memorial to the Regiment, that incorporated their 300 year history, to honour ‘the Dukes’ and their links to Halifax, Yorkshire, home to the regiment for over 200 years. His Grace the Duke of Wellington kindly agreed to be patron of the appeal and will be unveiling this magnificent bronze monument in Halifax in May 2019.

Working to the commissioner’s brief, Andrew’s distinctive style of Contemporary Realist Sculpture has resulted in an exciting, unusual and dynamic design.

Following approval of Andrew’s original maquette, work has commenced by sculpting the three main life-size soldier figures first before embarking on the multiple bas-relief elements which incorporate the historical and social narrative of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment.
